Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev claimed his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's initial title following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after spring of 2023.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children together, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's defensive play style and regular reactions on court had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to perform at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an better serving game.

He came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his first ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 early break points in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the net, with his opponent incapable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
